shabad kirtan in Ashram

I know its too late to share these, but got hold of the photographs today...

The Shabad kirtan in the Art of Living Ashram was held on the 19th of June 2009. It was mesmerizing. According to the instructions by Guruji, the ashram obeyed all rules of singing the Kirtan. Every single person had covered their head. The Kirtan was devoid of clapping, which was yet another unique aspect and something new for ashramites :) . The Gurudwara Of bangalore, President and Secretary along with Sikh Families in Bangalore were also present for the kirtan. Guruji, the day before the Kirtan, gave a commentary on Ik Onkar too.


The Ashram Kitchen also prepared Langar Prasad and the main Cook of the Gurudwara in collaboration with Ashram kitchen made the dinner for the evening.

Tiny Tots Voice Protest against Smoking

Bangalore: Over Hundred children from SSRVM school along with teachers took part in a Anti Smoking Rally that was held in Koramangala BDA complex, Forum Mall and Raheja Arcade.
The event formed as part of the value education project for the school. It was held under the banner: “Stop Smoking, Start Living”. Children also gave pamphlets to the passersby informing them about the Art of Living’s de- addiction programs that would help smokers to kick the Habit in just 6 days.
“Through such events and value based educations, the harms of smoking get embedded in children and they also become a vehicle for spreading awareness”, said Reshma Ganesh, Principal, SSRVM School. “We look forward to conducting more such awareness programmes, that will build value among children”, she added.

I don't know what brings me back to this city heartland again and again. I love being here, taking a glimpse of places where i used to pick my smokes and have my share of beer. Its not like i miss doing it. I dont. I would love to go to the same place and order for fruit juice and sweet pan just to see that confused look on the people who wonders what a weirdo i am. Nothing in me has changed. My love for non veg has changed into paneer and mushrooms, from beer and alcohol to mocktails and lassi and from cigs to meditation. I also, don have a single soul waiting and wailing for me begging me to come spent time together. Still being here is different. I don know what makes brigade road, church street and mg road carries. My ashram is thousand times more peaceful, beautiful and calm. Perhaps its the contrast which makes these streets endearing. . . Let these light shine bright!

The way back home.

Going home has never been so relaxed. Going home for the purpose of being with folks has never happened in ages. I have almost forgotten, how it felt like- when the monsoon usher in life to my home and our little garden, the simple hearted nearby villagers who still call you by your oldest pet name, the serenity of the roads that lead to temples and just being at spaces which still carries memories of childhood. home is where i wish to come back to. Longing to see, the space which has subtle impressions of my life. . .

About the Band

We began as a motley bunch of us who just knew each other from seeing too much of each other through college. It’s been over a year since we got together to perform at an acoustic festival in Chennai, and the one thing that has established itself in our music, our “style” and us as a band is spontaneity and constant surprises; so the one thing we knew for sure was that we would morph and change all the time. We’re not entirely sure how we began, and we don’t know where we’re headed, but wherever it is, we’re having a blast getting there. That’s us, Subject to Change.


The band has a pretty mad mix of people and music; poor, talented and unemployed (Aakash and Toby), struggling, wonderful artist (Anisha), perennially broke academic (Anjana), rising star singer (Benny) and rock steady abe (Abraham). Somehow everything just comes together perfectly with our music, (thankfully). If we had to put a label to ourselves, we are an acoustic band, essentially 70’s and 80’s junkies, rooted in rock, folk, blues and rock ‘n’ roll, with swirls of r & b, indie, alternative and a healthy dose of indigenous music.

Subject to Change also seems to have a serious addiction to medleys that have just developed lives of their own! We began one night with Sting’s “Message in a bottle” and “King of Pain”, and in under 24 hours we had 20 songs- from MJ to the Doobie Brothers; Oasis to Tina Turner and we called it the “Deadly Medley”, and it has become something of a signature performance of ours. The medley fever spawned several other concoctions; little two- song medleys, a crazy blend of the black eyed peas and A.R.Rahman and so it goes. That’s not to say we’re obsessed with just combining other people’s genius, it’s just another unexpected oddity that makes our music.

Subject to Change is a relatively baby band; we each have a whole lot of ideas, but we’re just starting to put them together as “our” music. “Better Things” is our first step in the big (sometimes not so wonderful) world of original music, and hopefully that’s what the song will take us to. While the cosmos is busy arranging for our stardom, we’ll just keep doing what we do best, and y’all... can clap to the rest ;o)

Gonigappa bus stand

A pleasant town in coorg, falls on the way to sai sanctuary near biru nani. You have to go to sai sanctuary via birunani but buses are very rare. If you are commuting by bus, then its better to take an auto from the place called shettygiri. They will charge you 200 bucks.
